Giving Back to the Community

Since 1986 Dismas House has helped our community welcome and transition former offenders back into society. Dismas has helped over twelve hundred people in their journeys back to society, and has hosted over 100 college students. We are a home for up to 15 men and women at a time; 28-32 annually. We accept individuals who are released from incarceration to receive the communal benefits our home/program has to offer. Here, residents establish a relationship with the community through a variety of programs and events we host. We collaborate with various governmental, non-profit and criminal justice entities along with community businesses, churches, groups, colleges and universities for our residents. Services residents recieve include weekly case-management, life skills programs, job preparedness/assistance, financial stability services, woman & men groups, family dinners (Mon.-Thur.), substance abuse, tutoring and other health & wellness related services. The events we host include a variety of social or public events to allow them to interact with the community in a welcoming environment with our staff, past residents, and family members.

The people we are able to help are truly special and unique individuals who, for some, find Dismas is the first time truly experience the feeling of being part of a family. Every new residents who walks through the door for the first time get a hug and are told “Welcome Home!”. Dismas helps residents reintroduced themselves back to our community and opens up the community back to them; ultimately leading to them graduating and becoming self-sufficient, tax-paying citizens.

Financially, Dismas relies ~25% on residential program fees with the rest of our funding coming from private, community and foundational based grants/funds along with funds from our community members. Dismas doesn’t receive any state or federal funding. We rely primarily on community donations from people like you!

With this online donation page we are hoping to give those who believe our mission an easily accessible platform to make contributions. We welcome all to join the Dismas community!
